A first-half double from Leigh Alexander led Western AFC to a 3-0 win over Dunedin's Northern as the Christchurch club claimed the South Island's sole spot in the Women's Knockout Cup soccer semifinals yesterday.
Alexander opened the scoring in the ninth minute and then slotted a second nine minutes before halftime. Aimee Phillips rounded out the scoring in the 50th minute as Western joined Wellington's Seatoun and Auckland's Lynn-Avon and Western Springs in today's semifinal draw.
Seatoun were the biggest winners on the day, easing into the top four for the fifth straight year with a 7-0 win over Massey University in Palmerston North.
