KEY POINTS:
Two late Jason Hayne goals sparked YoungHeart Manawatu's come-from-behind 3-2 away win over Otago in the last of three matches of the New Zealand Football Championship yesterday.
That win retained Manawatu's unbeaten start to the season, catapulting them three points clear at the top of the table. With that brace, Hayne has shot comfortably clear at the top of the golden boot, with five from three outings.
Robbie Deeley gave Otago the lead on the half-hour. With that goal still to the good with 18 minutes to play, the home side were contemplating a second win for the season.
Not for long. Gary Chettleburgh equalised, Hayne put the visitors ahead for the first time, Colin Falvey got Otago back to 2-2 but as the clock wound down Hayne grabbed the winner.
Team Wellington won away as well, getting home 2-1 over Hawkes Bay United, with Luis Corrales goals in the 53rd and 61st minutes. The Bay got one back with a Graham Fyfe penalty in the 63rd minute but the visitors held on for their first win of the season.
Craig Wylie was hero and villain for Waikato FC in completing the hat-trick of away wins for visiting teams.
Wylie scored after 26 minutes of sustained pressure from Waikato but was booked three minutes later for a challenge and then, in the 54th minute, sent off for a second yellow card following a clash with Andy Pitman.
Waitakere United, away to Auckland City in the last of the third round matches on Wednesday, picked up three valuable O-League points in beating Port Vila Sharks 3-0 on Saturday.
