KEY POINTS:
Football Federation Australia (FFA) today confirmed the expansion of the A-League, adding two new teams.
Teams from the Gold Coast and a Townsville-based, North Queensland, consortium will make it a 10-team competition from next season.
FFA chief executive Ben Buckley said the expansion was "fantastic news" for the league.
He said the final legal documentation was still pending for the Townsville deal but expected to clear that up over the next few weeks.
"Expansion of the A-League is a critical issue to the continuing evolution and growth of football and this is a very exciting day for FFA, everyone involved in the A-League, Gold Coast and North Queensland."
He reiterated the FFA's view that ultimately the league had the capacity to include as many as 14 teams.
Buckley confirmed FFA was in discussions with a number of parties about adding more teams for the 2010/11 season.
