KUALA LUMPUR - Sydney FC became the first Australian club to win in the AFC Champions League, securing a 2-1 victory at Shanghai Shenhua today.
Their Group E success came after Adelaide United marked Australia's debut in Asia's premier club competition by losing 1-0 to Chinese league champions Shandong Luneng in Group G.
Steve Corica's sixth-minute volley put Sydney in front before Ufuk Talay added a second from 25 metres. Xie Hui was on target for Shenhua.
