KEY POINTS:
Sydney FC have sacked coach Branko Culina just two months into the A-League season.
Culina was given his marching orders yesterday afternoon after being summoned to a meeting with officials at club headquarters.
"The only news is, we've decided to part ways amicably, and Branko will now stop working for Sydney FC, that's all I can say at the moment," club chairman Andrew Kemeny said after emerging from the one-hour meeting with Culina.
Former Adelaide United coach John Kosmina has been tipped to take over as Sydney's fourth coach in just 2 1/2 seasons.
But Kemeny said a fulltime or caretaker coach had yet to be appointed.
Culina was appointed to the job fulltime only in April after Sydney's promising start to their Asian Champions League campaign.
But he has been under mounting pressure in recent weeks as Sydney have struggled in the A-League.
Their 0-1 home loss to Adelaide United on Saturday appears to have been the final straw.
Sydney, who have been hamstrung by injuries and suspensions to key players, have won just two of nine games this season. They sit in sixth place in the eight-team competition, five points adrift of the top four.
Saturday's loss was also their fourth defeat in six home matches.
Culina, who had been signed up for two years, is the third coach to leave in acrimonious circumstances.
German Pierre Littbarski guided Sydney to the inaugural A-League championship in 2005-06, but departed soon after when he turned down a reduced offer to re-sign.
His replacement, Englishman Terry Butcher, was then dumped after just one year of his two-year deal when Sydney finished fourth during a tumultuous second season.
