The New Zealand under-17 women's soccer team gave their Australian under-20 counterparts a scare before losing 4-2 in the final match of their tour in Canberra yesterday.
After scoring successive 4-0 wins over Australia under-17, the New Zealanders briefly looked like adding an under-20 scalp when they took the lead after just 65 seconds.
Sarah McLaughlin latched on to Anna Fullerton's cross to take the lead and stun the hosts. But the Australians responded with two goals in as many minutes midway through the first spell before another saw them lead 3-1 at halftime.
The New Zealand team are preparing for the under-17 World Cup in October-November in New Zealand.
