Real Madrid and Schalke 04 both sit comfortably after first leg wins in the quarterfinal phase of the Champions League this morning.
Schalke 04 stunned defending champions Inter Milan 5-2 while Madrid eased to a 4-0 victory over Tottenham.
The German club clearly have the upper hand heading into the second leg after taking a three goal advantage away from the San Siro Stadium in Milan.
Inter opened the scoring in just the first minute after Dejan Stankovic scored a stunning goal from near the halfway line.
Joel Matip tied the game up in the 16th minute before Diego Milito fired home from close range to hand Inter the lead once again.
But it all went downhill for the Italian side from there as Goncalves Edu made it 2-2 six minutes before halftime and Raul put Schalke ahead seven minutes after the break.
Inter defender Andrea Ranocchia scored an own goal in the 57th minute to hand Schalke a 4-2 lead and it only got worse as Cristian Chivu sent off a second yellow card.
Edu added a fifth goal for Schalke 15 minutes before fulltime leaving Inter with a near impossible task to reach the semifinals. The winner of the Schalke 04/Inter Milan quarterfinal will face either Chelsea or Manchester United in the semifinals.
Meanwhile at the Bernabeu Stadium Emmanuel Adebayor headed a goal in each half as Real Madrid eased by 10-man Tottenham.
Adebayor beat Jermaine Jenas to the ball after just four minutes at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium to guide a header past goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes and through the legs of Luka Modric on the line.
Tottenham was left with 10 men from the 15th minute when Peter Crouch earned a second booking for a rash tackle.
Adebayor added Madrid's second by guiding Marcelo's cross home in the 57th minute before goals from Angel Di Maria and Cristiano Ronaldo ensured a comfortable advantage ahead of next week's return leg at White Hart Lane.
