The Wellington Phoenix finished their pre-season game against the Newcastle Jets in Weston yesterday with eight men as they were beaten 3-1.
Manny Muscat, Ben Sigmund and Andrew Durante were all shown red cards, while Alex Smith bagged the goal for the visitors.
Leo Bertos looked comfortable at right back for the Phoenix, while Smith and Jeremy Brockie were dangerous on attack.
The Phoenix leave for India today to take part in a four-team tournament in the sub-continent before returning to New Zealand to continue their pre-season campaign.
Wellington kick-off the A-League season proper when they host Sydney FC at Westpac Stadium on October 6.
