Nearly 200 CVs have already crossed the desk of Wellington Phoenix general manager David Dome as the club's search for a new head coach continues.

With applications arriving daily from all over the world and from as far afield as North America and Europe, Dome was encouraged by the prospects.

"We have received interest from some very high calibre applicants, including some who have coached at the highest levels in Europe," Dome said.

Applications for the role close on Friday, with a shortlist to be established and interviews next month.

'We are keen to complete the process in the next six weeks or so we can move on, but we are also very focussed on finding the right person for the job and will take the time necessary to do this," Dome said.

"While we are getting some well-known names come through, the most important thing for us is to get a head coach who understands and will execute the club's vision.

"We are taking external independent advice from experts outside of the club to ensure that we get the very best person we can for the job."

Former assistant Chris Greenacre has looked after the Phoenix in a caretaker capacity since former supremo Ricki Herbert resigned late last month.

Greenacre guided the side to a rare 2-1 away win over Perth Glory during the weekend and has since indicated he may apply for the top job.

The Wellington Phoenix take on the Melbourne Victory in their final home game of the season on Sunday, March 31 at 4.30pm at Westpac Stadium.
