A lack of finishing touch cost the Football Kingz soccer side as they went down 0-1 to fellow NSL team Northern Spirit in Rotorua.
The Kingz had clear opportunities, especially in the second half, but could not capitalise on them.
In a closely contested match where four yellow cards were dished out, the only goal came midway through the game's second half.
Spirit's new signing, Gabriel Mendez, expertly curved a free kick into the box and Michael Cunico headed past Kingz keeper Julio Cuello.
