KEY POINTS:
Don't mention the D word to New Zealand coach John Herdman. He knows that if Chile can upset Nigeria in their final pool match at the Fifa Under-20 Women's World Cup in Temuco this morning, a draw against England in Santiago would get Hardman's Junior Ferns through to the quarter-finals. But Herdman is not thinking draw.
"We have to win," said Herdman. "It's the first time we have got to the final pool game with our destiny in our own hands so we have to put all other distractions out of our minds and concentrate on winning."
The two matches are being played concurrently so Herdman does not want to leave anything to chance.
A win over England would guarantee New Zealand a place in post-section play, a famous first at a Fifa tournament for a New Zealand team, male or female, and would leave England and Nigeria to fight over the second qualifying spot.
"If we get news that Nigeria are two goals down and we are in a position to get a point then we will pull back our fullbacks and adjust our strategy," said Herdman. "If that happens it might not be the prettiest game to watch but that's tournament football."
With a 6-6 for and against goals record, the Ferns have been one of the most entertaining teams at the tournament. Only Brazil (8) have scored more goals while their efforts have been matched only by the highly-fancied Germans and Americans who have netted six also.
The big unknown could be the artificial pitch which poses a challenge. Given the likely increase in the pace of the game on the foreign surface, Herdman might be tempted to bring the speedy Merissa Smith into his starting line-up in place of the unfortunately suspended midfielder Ria Percival.
He has other options but they would mean positional switches, something he may prefer to shy away from.
Rosie White, already one of the most-talked-about players at the tournament, has the chance to add to the three goals she scored in the win over Chile and consolidate her place as joint leader in the goal-scoring race.
Progressing to the next round would give her the chance to chase the golden shoe as the tournament's top scorer, another incentive for this team to give it their all and win through to a likely last-eight clash, likely to be against the US or France.
