These days matches between Auckland City and Waitakere United are seen as the feature of the domestic soccer scene but in years past it was sister clubs Central United and Waitakere City who enjoyed the same rivalry.
Three times between 1995 and 2005 the team winning the Chatham Cup battles between the two went on to win the coveted cup.
Tomorrow at Kiwitea St they will be at it again with Central, as part of their 50th jubilee celebrations, hosting their long-time foes in a classic third-round cup match-up.
They meet just a week after their northern premier league clash won 5-1 by Waitakere City at Fred Taylor Park, but neither camp will be reading too much into that result as Central are expected to roll out their big guns - including Ivan Vicelich and David Mulligan.
Between them, the two clubs have collected the silverware seven times, with Central the latest winner after beating Western Suburbs on penalties in the 2007 final.
