Wellington Phoenix star forward Paul Ifill has indicated the club is in pole position to get his signature beyond the current A-League season.
Ifill comes off-contract at the end of the season, and has confirmed he's been approached by rival A-League clubs, but is keen to re-sign with the Phoenix if they can agree terms.
He says staying down under is his preference over a return to the United Kingdom.
Ifill says there are different options for him than the other squad members, but he'll only consider those if he can't come to a deal with the Phoenix.
Wellington Phoenix coach Ricki Herbert is confident of retaining the star forward, but Radio Sport understands Sydney FC and Newcastle United have approached Ifill about making the switch.
