An Italian goalie has cost his side their season after prematurely celebrating a penalty miss.
The strange sequence took place during a penalty shootout between Italian lower league sides Termeno and Dro, where the winner earned a spot in the Italian sixth division.
Up stepped Termeno's Michael Palma with the shootout locked up at 4-4. His penalty attempt struck the crossbar and he fell to his knees in despair with his side's season looking to have slipped away.
Dro's Loris Angeli did what any goalie would do and ran off to celebrate but the ball was still in play and unbelievably took some back spin and rolled into the empty net six seconds later.
The goal was awarded and Termeno's place in the Eccellenza league was capped off when the final Dro penalty was saved.
