KEY POINTS:
Former Australian international and last year's Adelaide United captain Ross Aloisi is linking up with the new Wellington Phoenix soccer franchise.
The club is scheduled to unveil its first signings today and The Dominion Post reported that the ageing Aloisi will be among them.
Aloisi, a controversial figure in the Australian A-league scene last season, was spotted in Wellington yesterday, the newspaper said.
He made five appearances for the Socceroos, the last in 1999 against Manchester United, and spent 10 seasons playing in Switzerland, France, Italy, Austria and Malaysia.
Last year the 34-year-old led Adelaide to the A-League grand final, but left the club he had loyally served on and off since 1990 under a cloud.
He was sent off during their 0-6 grand final loss to Melbourne Victory and was one of four Adelaide players to make a humble public apology after the match.
Aloisi's aftermatch comments directed at match officials drew widespread criticism and the saga led to his ignominious "retirement" from the club in April and the resignation of Adelaide coach John Kosmina.
