The finals of the Chatham Cup and national women's knockout cup will return to Christchurch for the first time in 25 and 19 years respectively with ASB Football Park confirmed to host a cup final double-header on Sunday, September 15.
For the first time, Christchurch has a club in each of the showpieces of New Zealand winter football with Cashmere Technical meeting three-time Chatham Cup winners Waitakere City in the men's final and Coastal Spirit facing Glenfield Rovers in a repeat of the 2011 women's final.
New Zealand Football's competitions manager Chris Kemp said the presence of two Christchurch teams provided the perfect opportunity to take the games to the city.
"The ASB Chatham Cup and ASB Knockout Cup are national competitions and much of their enduring appeal is that any club, no matter how big or small or where they come from can enter,'' Kemp said.
"So an opportunity like this to take the finals to a region with such a proud history, especially in the ASB Chatham Cup, is one that we really had to seize upon.''
