A Herald on Sunday feature on All White footballer Ceri Evans and his new life as a forensic psychologist helped earn New Zealand Herald journalist Terry Maddaford the title of soccer writer of the year at the sport's annual awards.
Writing in the inaugural issue of the Herald on Sunday, Maddaford told the story of how Evans - a Rhodes Scholar and former defender from the richest years of New Zealand football - had moved from analysing a football game to analysing minds in his role as a forensic psychologist. It is a sensitive and demanding profession which recommends whether people are mentally fit to face the court system. His three-story entry included a piece on the Chatham Cup run of the Kerikeri team and coverage of the Oceania Nations Cup.
