Shakhtar Donetsk beats Sociedad in Champs League

SAN SEBASTIAN, Spain (AP) Alex Teixeira struck twice to give Shakhtar Donetsk a 2-0 away victory over Real Sociedad in Group A of the Champions League on Tuesday.

Teixeira drilled in a low shot in the 65thminute to break the deadlock, and followed it up with a superb goal in the 87th.

Surging into the area on the left and appearing to run out of space, Teixeira suddenly unleashed a powerful low shot inside the far post, beating stranded goalkeeper Claudio Bravo.

Teixeira also scored twice in Shakhtar's first three European matches last season.

Sociedad regretted missing the first scoring chance of the match, when Mexican forward Carlos Vela shot just wide in the 25th.

"In the first half we were the better side, but we failed to score and in the second we paid for that," Sociedad midfielder Xabi Prieto said. "In the second half we fell apart."
