GELSENKIRCHEN, Germany (AP) Schalke defender Dennis Aogo will likely be out for the rest of the season after tearing the cruciate ligament in his right knee.
The injury-plagued Bundesliga club says on its website that Aogo suffered the injury in the side's last training session before Saturday's home game against Stuttgart. An examination later Friday confirmed the extent of the damage.
Midfielder Marco Hoeger (cruciate ligament), striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar (knee) and Kyriakos Papadopoulos (knee) were already long-term injury absentees for the club.
Winger Jefferson Farfan and attacking midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng have also missed games with a groin injury and knee problems, respectively.
Schalke was sixth in the Bundesliga ahead of the 14th round of games.
