RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) Two Flamengo club officials have been briefly detained for failing to provide documents to authorities investigating a price hike in tickets for the Brazilian Cup final.
Flamengo, Brazil's most popular club, significantly raised prices for the final against Atletico Paranaense, prompting several complaints from consumer advocates and becoming part of a probe by the city's consumer rights department.
Tickets for the final at the Maracana Stadium next week range from about $110-350, which authorities say is more than 30 percent higher than what was charged in the semifinals.
Local media said the current prices are at least 150 percent higher than usual.
Flamengo says it's entitled to raise prices for the high-demand match, a common practice in Brazil. It also notes that most fans will pay discounted prices, and that the added money will help bring new players next season.
