LISBON, Portugal (AP) FC Porto was held to 1-1 at home by Nacional on Saturday, letting Benfica climb to within one point of the Portuguese leader with a 1-0 win over Braga.
Jackson Martinez headed Porto in front in the 52nd, but Mario Rondon leveled in the 82nd to split the points.
"We knew they were going to lower their rhythm," Rondon said. "Our strategy was to hold on and strike on the counterattack. We wanted to take a point and we did just that."
Benfica Nemanja Matic scored the winner in the 73rd.
Benfica was without coach Jorge Jesus who was suspended by the Portuguese football federation for 30 days for an altercation with police at the end of a game in September.
