It must be pretty demoralising to find your team a goal down after just 3.8 seconds.
But that's exactly what happened to Canterbury United in their ASB Youth League match against Heartland Wairarapa two weeks ago.
Wairarapa midfielder Pedro Garcias, one of two overage players each side is allowed in the U-19 competition, stamped his experience and authority on the game from the opening whistle, rifling a shot home from halfway with the first touch of the game.
But despite scoring the fastest recorded goal in New Zealand Football history, the 35-year old journeyman was unable to maintain 'the perfect game' as Canterbury came back to win 4-2.
Still, it will be a real confidence booster for Garcias who must now be encouraged to try his luck playing against adults.
