THESSALONIKI, Greece (AP) Lucas scored a goal and assisted on another to help PAOK beat crosstown rival Aris 3-1 in the Greek league Sunday.
PAOK dominated the game, but it was Aris which opened the scoring against the run of play on a swift counterattack in the 59th minute. PAOK goalie Panayotis Glykos failed to hold on to a point-blank shot by Michalis Manias and Chigozie Udoji pounced on the rebound to score.
Lucas came in for Dimitris Salpingidis in the 68th and four minutes later equalized in exactly the same way, netting the rebound after goalkeeper Socrates Dioudis failed to block Lino's shot. Klaus Athanassiadis gave PAOK the lead in the 80th, also in a similar manner after Dioudis deflected Miroslav Stoch's shot into his path. Zvonimir Vukic, another substitute, closed the scoring in the 90th with a header from Lucas' corner kick.
PAOK remained six points behind league leader Olympiakos, 4-1 winner at Panthrakikos Saturday, and seven ahead of third-place Atromitos, which beat last-place Veria 1-0 Saturday. Aris is second to last.
Also Sunday, Panathinaikos beat Giannena 3-1 in front of empty stands, as punishment for crowd trouble, to shake off the visitors and claim sole possession of fourth place, a point behind Atromitos. Xanthi defeated Panetolikos by the same score, newcomer Kalloni beat Platanias 1-0 and Asteras prevailed by the same score at Ergotelis.
