LONDON (AP) Crystal Palace earned its first win since returning to the Premier League by beating 10-man Sunderland 3-1 on Saturday.
Danny Gabbidon put Palace in front after nine minutes with a scrappy goal from a corner, but substitute Steven Fletcher headed Sunderland level in the 64th.
But Palace, which lost its opening two league matches against Tottenham and Stoke, remained resolute.
After Sunderland captain John O'Shea was dismissed for tripping Jason Puncheon inside the area, Dwight Gayle stepped up to score his first goal for the south London club.
The win was wrapped up in stoppage time, with Palace substitute Stuart O'Keefe curling a shot into the back of the net off the underside of the crossbar.
