RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) The masseur for a fourth-division Brazilian football team stepped onto the pitch and defended not one but two hard shots on goal.
Tupi missed out on a quarterfinals spot in the Serie D championship after the masseur, Romildo da Silva, took action into his own hands for his visiting Aparecidense.
In the 89th minute with the score level at 2-2 in the Saturday match, Silva lurked on the left side of goal when a Tupi player had an open shot. Silva blocked that shot and another one moments later.
Enraged Tupi players chased Silva from the pitch and police grabbed him for his own protection. Officials may order a rematch.
Silva tells a local radio that "I blocked the goal and I'd block it again."
