BANGKOK (AP) Worawi Makudi has been re-elected president of the Football Association of Thailand in a move that could stave off a FIFA ban for the country.
The 62-year-old Makudi defeated Virach Chanpanich 42-28 in a secret ballot to earn his fourth straight term as president. Two votes were deemed invalid.
The election had been postponed from March after a dispute among federation members regarding the adoption of a FIFA constitution which requires 72 voting members instead of 184.
FIFA had threatened to suspend Thailand from FIFA sanctioned events if the Thai FA did not amend its rules.
Worawi has been president of the federation since 2007. His rival Virach walked out of the meeting room immediately after it became clear that the incumbent had won.
