SOFIA, Bulgaria (AP) Newly-appointed Levski Sofia coach Ivaylo Petev resigned on Wednesday, a day after angry fans stripped him of his team shirt and forced him out of the room during his first news conference.
Petev was appointed on Tuesday to lead the 26-time Bulgarian champions after Serbian coach Slavisa Jokanovic was fired due to the team's poor performances this season.
The Levski fans accused Petev of being a supporter of archrival club, CSKA Sofia.
Prior to his appointment, the 38-year-old Petev had led Ludogorets Razgrad to two consecutive league titles.
Club owner Todor Batkov said on Wednesday that Antoni Zdravkov, a former Levski defender, will be in charge until the end of the season.
