ACCRA, Ghana (AP) Ghana midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng will miss the home leg of the World Cup playoff against Egypt next week with a left knee injury sustained on club duty with Schalke.
The Ghana Football Association says on Thursday it was hopeful Boateng might recover from the weekend injury but tests in Germany this week confirmed he will not be available for the game in Kumasi on Tuesday.
Boateng was one of four Europe-based players to return from international sabbaticals to boost Ghana in the final stages of qualifying, with Real Madrid's Michael Essien and Marseille's Ayew brothers, Andre and Jordan, also available again.
Ghana and Egypt are battling for one of the five African places at the World Cup. The second leg of their tie is on Nov. 19.
