Jarryd Hayne is being lined up to play a football match in Sydney featuring one of his heroes, the Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.
Hayne, the ex-Australian league star, is still battling to get his NFL career underway after being relegated to the San Francisco 49ers practice squad. The 49ers play their last game of the season on January 4, giving Hayne time to get back for the clash between the Australian and Liverpool legends at ANZ Stadium.
Hayne, a longtime Liverpool fan, is giving the game plenty of thought on the basis it is for charity, the Daily Telegraph reported. He has also made friends with Australian footballers such as Brett Emerton and Tim Cahill. The paper reported, rather precisely, that Hayne would make a 25 minute burst on the wing.
The Liverpool side will feature Ian Rush, Robbie Fowler, Jamie Carragher, goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar and Gary McAllister with Gerard Houllier as manager.
The Aussies will include Slater, Tony Vidmar, Tony Popovic, Emerton, Alex Tobin, Mark Bosnich, Jason Culina, Scott Chipperfield, Ned Zelic and Stan Lazaridis.
