PRAGUE (AP) Former Czech Republic defender Tomas Ujfalusi has retired from football because of a knee injury.
Sparta Prague, which signed the 35-year-old Ujfalusi to a one-year contract at the beginning of the season, says the injury prevents him from playing any more.
Ujfalusi moved to Sparta in August from Galatasaray after he the injury forced him to miss the entire season. He was supposed to be ready but played only two cup matches and a friendly for Sparta.
Ujfalusi also had played for Hamburger SV in the Bundesliga, Fiorentina in Italy and Atletico Madrid in Spain.
He made 78 appearances for the Czech Republic and was on the team that reached the semifinals at the 2004 European Championship.
