Substitute Robbie Fowler equalised with an injury-time header to give England a 2-2 draw against Cameroon in a low-key World Cup warm-up soccer match at the Universiade Memorial Stadium yesterday.
Cameroon were on course to become the first African team to beat England after they twice led with goals from Samuel Eto'o after five minutes and a free kick from Geremi after 58 minutes.
Darius Vassell scored injury-hit England's first after 12 minutes of a game that only periodically sparked into life in front of a largely silent crowd.
Fowler's header was the last action of the match and gave England a rather flattering draw.
What good play there was came largely from Cameroon who moved the ball around intelligently and made England look second best for most of the game.
Eto'o took his chance well, firing past Nigel Martyn after a shot from Pierre Wome had rebounded back off a post.
Vassell's goal also came via the woodwork as did Geremi's free kick, awarded after Gareth Southgate's handball.
