Ireland have had some good news on the injury front, to compensate for the grim start to their World Cup campaign after captain Roy Keane was sent home.
Midfielder Jason McAteer, who was carried off on a stretcher after a rash tackle by Hiroshima's Bilong during a World Cup warm-up game last Saturday, could be fit for their opening game of the finals against Cameroon on Saturday.
Initial reports had raised fears that the 30-year-old had suffered a serious knee injury but a scan revealed only bad bruising.
