Injury-hit striker Daniel Fonseca was one of four players dropped when the 23-strong Uruguayan squad was named yesterday.
The three others were Federico Magallanes of Italian side Venezia, and Diego Perez and Sebastien Eguren, both based in Uruguay.
The 32-year-old Fonseca, who played at Italian league sides Napoli and Juventus for 12 seasons, is suffering from an open wound on the sole of his foot.
