Emirates Lounge, Melbourne Airport
Sitting in the lounge waiting to depart for Austria the boys are in a great mood. I'm not surprised after such a solid performance against Australia on Monday.
It was gut-wrenching to lose a game like that in the dying seconds, but the boys are proud of the way WE played. Yes WE are in capitals. I don't need to comment on the opposition, everyone saw the tackles. There were so many positives taken out of the game, I know Ricki and the staff are happy.
The only worrying moment yesterday was the news of Tim Brown. He's had to fly back to Auckland to get his shoulder checked. I don't know the details but the lads were hurting when we found out he will miss the trip to Austria. Everyone has their fingers crossed he will be right for the first World Cup game against Slovakia. Brownie has a huge presence in the side, both on and off the field. He's such a positive guy and it will take more than a sore arm to keep him out.
After a recovery session in the gym/pool this morning the boys were treated to a feed at one of Melbourne's best Italian restaurants. Universal restaurant on Lygon Street sorted us out with a great spread of pizza and pasta. It was good to have a change from chicken and rice, the standard hotel meal.
The final boarding call is announced and we're off to Austria, via Dubai and Frankfurt.
Thank God for Business Class!
