Glen Moss: Belief shines through in upset victory

I don't usually read the match day programme in the dressing room like most of the lads, especially when the opposition has clubs like Manchester United, Valencia and Chelsea next to their names. I like to think they're just footballers, normal blokes like us.

I think that attitude worked for us today against Serbia, ranked 15 in the world with genuine superstars. There is a bag full of belief in this squad and the boys with Gold Coast United, Wellington Phoenix and Tampa Bay Rowdies next to their names showed just that.

Sure it was a friendly, a training run before the World Cup, but credit is well and truly deserved. We're not over here just to check out the scenery, although it is breathtaking. We've been working really hard on aspects of our game and that is starting to show in these so called friendlies.

The Serbian fans, 'the ultras', certainly don't believe in friendlies, that's for sure. They were more than happy to test the patience of local security, invading the pitch a few times. Or maybe they wanted to tell Shane Smeltz to cut the back of his hair properly. Shane had the last laugh, though.

As the traditional victory song Slice of Heaven was blasted through the sheds, the substitute players were put through their paces for an hour to make sure everyone is fit and on the same level.

This result will give us a massive confidence boost, but keep the champagne on ice or in the chilly bin until we get to South Africa!
