Harry Kane scored twice as England earned a flattering 4-0 victory away to Malta to keep them firmly on course for next year's World Cup finals.
Until the 85th minute Kane's solitary strike was all that divided the sides in the Ta' Qali National Stadium but a late flurry gave the scoreline a gloss that disguised a laboured and often guileless England performance.
Ryan Bertrand made it 2-0 in the 85th minute before stoppage-time goals from Danny Welbeck and Kane punished a tiring Malta.
England stay top of qualifying Group F with 17 points from seven games, two than second-placed Slovakia who beat Slovenia.
England play Slovakia at Wembley on Monday.
