"They played very well, especially in the second half against Wanderers, where they were very dominant," he said before training on Thursday.
"They are an aggressive team with a lot of physical power. I think if we want to win, the minimum we have to do is be as aggressive as they are.
"That will be a very, very important factor in the game."
The Jets will be without Venezuelan striker Ronnie Vargas, out indefinitely after badly breaking and dislocating his left ankle in Newcastle's 2-1 win over the Roar 10 days ago.
Defender Daniel Georgievski has also been sidelined for up to a month with a hamstring strain.
Wellington have been struggling with their own injury woes, missing skipper Andrew Durante for the last two games with a groin injury, while fellow central defender Marco Rossi has only managed 45 minutes of football in the last three matches.
Kalezic says Durante is travelling to Newcastle, and should play but Rossi won't be making the trip.
Defender Scott Galloway, who lasted only 20 minutes against the Roar before hamstring cramps forced him from the field, will also remain in Wellington.
Wellington didn't respond well to midfield pressure in the second half of their game against Brisbane, something Kalezic wants to see remedied against the Jets.
"We stopped being dominant in ball possession," he said.
"That we stopped playing has nothing to do with the opponent, it has everything to do with us. Of course the opponent put pressure on us, but we want to play through the pressure, and players have to show courage to do that."
