Football: Wanderland becoming nasty house of horrors

The rosy glow of Asian Champions League triumph has well and truly dissipated in Wanderland as Western Sydney start the year with problems on and off the pitch.

The Wanderers remain winless and bottom in the A-League following a 0-0 home draw with Central Coast on New Year's Day and even their normally devoted fans are starting to get upset.

The club will investigate a post-match incident in which members of club's Red and Black Bloc vented their displeasure at the players.

After disgruntled fans allegedly yelled at the players, fullback Shannon Cole tried to placate, saying the players were trying their hardest.

Officials suggested some fans weren't impressed with Cole's explanation, with one apparently trying to climb the fence, to be held back by security staff.

It was a rare crack in the normally totally united show of support the Wanderers get from their passionate fans.

Coach Tony Popovic remains unshakeable in his belief the Wanderers will turn things around if they keep persisting.

His biggest concern remains their inability to find the back of the net.

They have gone seven hours, four and two-third games, since their last goal and have netted a league-low six times.

"We just need the ball to somehow go in," Popovic said. "Once that first one goes in they [the strikers] usually go on a roll and everything they touch goes in."
