Barcelona and Spain defender Gerard Pique announced that he will retire from international soccer after the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
"The 2018 World Cup in Russia will be my last appearance for the Spanish national team," Pique saiid after Spain's 2-0 away win against Albania in the qualifications for the 2018 World Cup.
"I always give everything I have on the field, but there are people who think it's better if I'm not here," Pique said, adding that he got tired of doubting his commitment.
Pique, who played for Spain on 86 occasions, was criticised by the Spanish media following Sunday's win against Albania for allegedly removing the national colours from his shirt's sleeves.
Pique explained that he had in fact cut the sleeves of a shirt that did not have the same flag design.
