The buoyant Wellington Phoenix will need to ensure they rest up this week as they prepare for a hectic New Year period in the A-League.
Fresh off an impressive 2-0 victory over Sydney FC across the Tasman last night, Ernie Merrick's side may have to think twice about asking for a second helping of turkey on Christmas Day.
On Sunday they host the Western Sydney Wanderers at Westpac Stadium before heading to South Australia to meet Adelaide United on New Year's Eve before they bounce back home to play Brisbane at the Cake Tin on Sunday, January 4. The A-League then takes a three-week hiatus during the Asian Cup, which is being hosted in Australia.
Three games in eight days with a jaunt across the Tasman in the middle is a challenging stretch but the Phoenix will tackle it in season-best form, while they also occupy fourth place on the A-League ladder.
"There is not going to be much recovery time before the Asian Cup break so we've got three tough games now on the back of four good matches where we haven't lost any games with three wins and a draw," Phoenix coach Ernie Merrick told Radio Sport.
