Former All Whites coach Ricki Herbert has had a winning start to the new Indian Super League with his NorthEast United side beating the Sachin Tendulkar-owned Kerala Blasters.
NorthEast United took the lead just before the break through Spaniard Koke. Former England international David James, player-manager for Kerala, ensured kept his side in the game but they failed to find an equaliser.
Former All White and Phoenix midfielder Leo Bertos is in the NorthEast United squad but did not play.
