The Football Ferns have made a late comeback this morning to claim a 2-2 draw in their final Group B match at the Women's Football World Cup in Germany this morning.
New Zealand were down 2-0 until the 90th minute, before the Kiwis hit back with two late goals.
Mexico went up early after Stephany Mayor received a through-ball to get past the New Zealand defenders and slot the ball passed keeper Jenny Bindon in the second minute.
In the 29th minute Mexico made it 2-0, when Maribel Dominguez got on the end of a goal kick from Celia Santiago to get behind the defenders to score.
Despite being down for most of the game, New Zealand had the most shots on goal - 19 compared to Mexico's 10. But it was New Zealand's final two shots in the game which would prove to be the most important.
In the 90th minute, captain Rebecca Smith got her head on the end of a corner, to beat Santiago to score what at the time seemed merely a consolation.
However four minutes later, with the final kick of the game, Hannah Wilkinson managed to control a long ball into the box and score an unlikely equaliser.
The Mexico players claimed Wilkinson had controlled the ball with her arm in order to bring it down, and they may have had a point, however the referee deemed their only point was one they would share with the Football Ferns.
The Kiwi girls thanked their supporters with a rousing haka at the end of the game, much to the delight of the 20,451 who packed the Sinsheim's Rhein-Necker-Arena.
The Football Ferns draw this morning scored them their solitary point in the competition, finishing the stage at the bottom of Group B.
The result knocked Mexico out of the competition, as the draw meant they finished third behind England and Japan, who qualify for the knockout stages.
