LONDON (AP) Six football supporters have been jailed after being convicted of causing racially aggravated fear of violence for their offensive chants on a train following an FA Cup match last year.
On their way back from the game at Fulham, the Charlton Athletic fans chanted songs praising the murderer of black teenager Stephen Lawrence in 1993.
Prosecutors said the men were convicted after witnesses complained of sexual and racially motivated abuse. They received sentences of between eight and 18 months in prison, as well as football banning orders. A seventh supporter was given a six-month suspended sentence.
British Transport Police said the fans chanted in support of Gary Dobson, three days after he was convicted of murdering Lawrence.
