"I think when you have some pretty inconsistent results you look at a few things happening within the squad that can affect those things and that is part of it; new players acclimatising to how we are going to play," Calcott said.
"We've also taken a bit of a gamble on one or two fixtures and played with an extra striker and maybe that's affected us. From our side it's just getting that level of consistency and after two tough games on the road it's good to be back at home this week."
After a 4-1 victory over Wanderers at Bill McKinlay Park in December where Team Wellington were forced to come from a goal down, Calcott says there were lessons learned in that outing that need to be applied on Sunday.
"I think our speed of play was good and that's what we need to do and do well.
Obviously what we want to eradicate is the early goals. They tend to get some early goals and come out with a hiss and roar in the first 20 minutes. That's something we need to address and be switched on early."
Looking back to their previous meeting from his point of view, Wanderers SC coach Darren Bazeley says his side have moved on significantly.
"Last time we played it them was early on in the season and since that game we've got a lot better and developed individually and as a team," Bazeley said.
"We've concentrated on performances and not looked at results and funnily enough, since we've been doing that, the results have started coming. That's been good and the boys have worked really hard."
Those efforts have featured the performances of Deklan Wynne with the All Whites fullback unavailable this week having taken up a trial opportunity in England with West Bromwich Albion while Norwich and Bournemouth are also keen to give the 18-year-old an opportunity to impress.
"He's currently the All Whites left back and he's a very good player," Bazeley said.
"Losing Deklan is tough for the team but it gives somebody else an opportunity. Part of our reason for being is to give these players the pathways and prepare them for higher opportunities than what we are. It's good for him and an opportunity for somebody else to stake a claim."
Meanwhile, WaiBOP United's playoff push continues with a home clash with the Wellington Phoenix at John Kerkhof Park in Cambridge on Saturday.
Peter Smith's side have reached a pivotal moment in their season, sitting four points outside the current semi-final places with just three matches remaining.
Victory on Saturday will keep the hosts in touch and will mean the March 8 clash with third-placed Hawke's Bay would have huge playoff implications.
A repeat dose of the 2-0 victory WaiBOP enjoyed over the Phoenix at Eden Park in December would be just the tonic. But despite that performance in the bank, they'll still need to get by a Wellington Phoenix side which, while occupying seventh place, owns the best scoring record in the league with 32 goals across 13 games.
Also on Saturday, Canterbury United play their final home match of the season against Waitakere United with the result set to decide the fate of Sean Devine's team.
Six points behind fourth-placed Waitakere United, a loss would eliminate the Dragons from playoff contention with two games remaining against the Wellington Phoenix and Hawke's Bay United.
After an indifferent first half of the season, Brian Shelley and Waitakere have put together a decent month in February, winning three of their four outings to climb back into the thick of the semi-final race.
Canterbury United were 2-0 winners when the pair met at Fred Taylor Park in December and, with leading scorer Aaron Clapham back in the mix this time, there is reason for optimism in Christchurch.
On Sunday Southern United play their penultimate home match of the year as they look to jam a stick in the spokes of semi-final hopefuls Hawke's Bay United at Forsyth Barr Stadium.
Mike Fridge's Southern side have been rooted to the bottom of the league since mid-January despite brave efforts in recent weeks against Auckland City, the Phoenix and Team Wellington.
Headlining their work has been striker Tom Jackson with the energetic front man joint-second in the Golden Boot race with eight goals for the season while centre back Matt Joy returns to the match-day squad for the first since suffering a knee injury in Southern's first game of the season against Auckland City.
Hawke's Bay took the reverse clash 3-1 in Napier in December and similar result here would solidify their playoff hopes and Brett Angell will be confident after his side have put together a three-match winning streak with results over Wanderers SC, Waitakere and the Phoenix.
But the visitors will have to achieve that outcome without the services of their own leading scorer with striker Sean Lovemore suspended.
