ZURICH (AP) FIFA has given worldwide life bans to 14 El Salvador national team players who had already been suspended by their home association for match-fixing.
The case involves four international matches, including El Salvador's 5-0 loss to Mexico at the 2011 Gold Cup and a 2-1 loss in a friendly against the United States in 2010.
FIFA says global sanctions were also extended against two players who received 18-month and six-month bans, respectively.
The El Salvador federation shut down the senior national team ahead of announcing sanctions last month.
The team's FIFA ranking has dropped to No. 93 since it played at the 2013 Gold Cup in July.
