Zidane is set on succeeding Mourinho on Manchester United's bench

Less than two and half months after leaving Real Madrid, French legend Zinédine Zidane is already looking to a new challenge.

According to L'Équipe, Zidane has his heart set on Manchester United, where José Mourinho is coaching for his third season.

He could cross the English Channel as soon as next summer if the Portuguese disappoints again this year.

The 1998 World Champion was hoping to take the helm of the French national team.

However Les Bleus' success in Russia opposed his plans as current manager Didier Deschamps seems now untouchable.

Last May Zidane caught everybody off-guard by announcing his departure from Real Madrid five days after leading the Meringues to a third consecutive Champion's League. It was his second experience on a bench after coaching the Real Madrid reserves.

As a player he has never joined Man U. And yet Sir Alex Fergusson spared no effort to attract the Juventus star in 1999, stating: "Give me Zidane and 10 pieces of wood and I'll win you the Champions League".
