Manchester United and England defender Rio Ferdinand is likely to lose his driving licence tonight (NZT) when he appears before magistrates charged with a speeding offence.
British media said Ferdinand had been charged after overtaking a police car at 170km/h on the M6.
The 26-year-old was due to appear before Staffordshire magistrates.
Ferdinand has been banned from driving before, for drink-driving and speeding.
