Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard has become the fourth goalkeeper to score in the English Premier League.
Everton lost 2-1 to Bolton, but opened the scoring through Howard's speculative effort.
A long downfield punt by the American was caught by the wind, bounced around 25 metres from the Bolton goal, andsailed past the despairing Adam Bogdan.
David Ngog equalised for Bolton, before captain Gary Cahill struck the winner 12 minutes from time.
Only three other goalkeepers have managed to score in the Premier League: Peter Schmeichel, Brad Friedel, and Paul Robinson.
The audacious goal marked Howard's 250th club match in England. After the match, the Everton 'keeper offered some sympathy to his opposite number Bogdan.
"It's not a nice place to be and embarrassing," he said. "I feel for him. I've been beaten before by a goalkeeper and it's quite awful.'"
