A "disgusted'' Tim Cahill has accused Frenchman Yohan Cabaye of using language which has "no place either on or off the football pitch''.
The Socceroo accepted a three-match ban for the start of next season's English Premier League after his club Everton's appeal against his sending off on Monday was rejected.
A fuming Cahill was shown a red card for grabbing the throat of Newcastle midfielder Cabaye just moments after the full-time whistle in Everton's 3-1 win.
"My reaction at the end of the game was out of character but I was disgusted at comments made to me by Cabaye,'' Cahill said in a statement through his management company.
"I don't wish to elaborate on the exact detail of what was said - but his words have no place either on or off the football pitch.
