"Chelsea can win the next match against Arsenal for sure," Mourinho said, "but the title I don't know because we depend on us to improve the results a lot but we also depend on other clubs above us to lose matches and this is out of our control."
Despite Chelsea's wretched performance, Mourinho said he was satisfied by his players' efforts and he was frustrated only by the result.
The cost of his failure to land Everton's John Stones in the summer transfer window was made clear by a commanding performance by the England defender, but when asked to comment on the player before the match Mourinho walked out of an interview with BT Sport.
After the game, the Chelsea manager would speak only about how unlucky he felt his side had been.
"We deserve a better result," he insisted. "We play for a better result. And we don't deserve this result: for the way the players start the game, finish the game.
"The confidence is low, an unhappy team because of bad results. Obviously there are some doubts. Every unlucky incident [has gone against us] in every match. Clearly, you can say what you want. But the players deserved more.
"The biggest concern is that everything goes against us," he said. "We know that we are making mistakes but with every mistake we are punished immediately.
"You lose a player for the first time: a headed goal. One shot from outside the box: goal. After that, a fantastic reaction. Hazard has fantastic chances with two shots but when it looks like it's going in, it goes for a corner. In the second half we have control of the game. We risk, we change; they defend - the first time they cross the midfield line they score another goal again.
"It's the old story of the striker: when things go well, a cross comes in and he scores with the elbow or he scores with the knee.
"When it goes wrong, he hits a fantastic shot and it hits the post and the bar and comes out.
"The old story: confidence low - everything is more difficult.
"We need to win consecutive matches and for the strikers to score again. We need the defenders to make mistakes and not to be punished. We need confidence."Telegraph Group Ltd
